Scope
Site Pandemic Response (SPR) is a web-based workforce management tool designed to help businesses track the health and wellbeing of their remote and mobile employees. The platform offers work-from-home risk assessments, health pre-screening tools, and daily physical and mental health checks. SPR aims to automate compliance, reducing manual processes and ensuring safety, particularly in response to COVID-19.
Process
I was tasked with improving the user experience for SPR’s daily health check and work-from-home risk assessment features. My approach included:
Problem Definition: Conducted thorough research, including usability heuristics evaluation, content clarifier mapping, user persona development, and two rounds of usability testing with 10 participants. Key issues identified included a confusing user flow, uninspiring design, and excessive irrelevant information.
Ideation: Led workshops to storyboard user journeys and generate ideas using the ‘Crazy 8’s’ technique. Prioritized ideas through an effort vs. impact analysis, identifying five key improvements to implement immediately.
Prototyping: Developed a mid-fidelity prototype that reduced the user flow from nine to six steps, incorporating gamification to enhance user engagement.
Solution
The streamlined user flow, tested with the same participants from the initial round, showed significant improvement. The redesign addressed the identified pain points, making the platform more intuitive, engaging, and efficient, allowing users to complete their tasks in two minutes or less. This improved experience supports SPR’s mission to ensure compliance and safety across industries.
