Redefining business travel management for FIFO workers.

Product Design, Web (UX/UI) Design, Logo & Branding for Fly2Work | 2022 | Lead Product Designer

Project Info

Scope

Fly2Work, a Brisbane-based SaaS startup, was created to address the inefficiencies in booking and managing travel and accommodation for Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) workers in the energy, resources, and mining industries. The primary challenges included inefficient systems, manual processes, lack of intuitive interfaces, and high costs associated with traditional booking methods.

Process

I was responsible for developing Fly2Work's brand from the ground up, including logo design, brand kit creation, and designing the public website. I conducted full-scale competitor and landscape research in order to inform the design for both the mobile and desktop apps. This involved adapting a 'mobile first' approach, conducting usability testing with two distinct user groups, and synthesising data to inform design decisions. Stakeholder workshops and presentations were essential in aligning the project with business goals.

Solution

Working closely with product managers and owners, I executed an iterative design process, moving from low to high fidelity in a series of sprints. The result was a simple, accessible, and intelligent travel management system that streamlined operations for both administrators and FIFO staff. Fly2Work has been successfully adopted by key industry players like BHP and Shell QGC, proving its ability to deliver cost savings and improve business agility.
